Tired of Dirty Air?

The pollution issue in North Texas reached crisis proportions long ago. Some of the most notorious figures in the controversy are the cement plants in Ellis County, Cognressman Joe Barton, TXU, and Bill Hammond of the Texas Area Businessmen. The cement plants have been throwing pollution in North Texas for years. Smoky Joe Barton has been covering for them from his former position of environmental power in Congress. TXU is one of the utilities pushing to build more coal plants. Bill Hammond advocates more nuclear power plants, even though they still can't dispose of any of the tons of waste already generated by them and probably will never solve the problem.

On the good side are activists like Jim Shermbeck and groups like Downwinders at Risk, the Sierra Club, and the Blue Skies Alliance. The Mayor of Dallas and leaders of other municipalities have formed a coalition to oppose new coal plants. What has been lacking so far is a coalition capable of mobilizing the millions of people who want clean air. Blue Skies is moving us closer to that key element with a long list of activities culminating in a rally in Austin on February 11 and a lobby day February 12.

Here is the schedule they recently sent out:
