Folk Music Continues

Charlie King and Karen Brandow sang to benefit the Dallas Peace Center on February 5. They turned out a good crowd at the First Unitarian Church, 4015 Normandy, in Dallas. The Peace Center table, staffed by State Representative Lon Burnam, sold items. Other tables advanced other progressive causes, but none of labor's immediate projects such as the fight for Social Security was evident.

King's performance put less accent on hilarious satire than pre-Bush performances, but retained characteristic humor in the face of some very bad political developments. A song about the abolition of puppets in Washington DC during the recent inauguration had everybody laughing.

Karen Brandow announced that the singing duo expects to be back in Texas during October when they will be touring to oppose the death penalty. They sang a beautiful duet about being remembered only for "the worst thing you have ever done!"

Good folk music pulls people together and gives them new strength for the battles ahead. This was good folk music!
