North Texas Jobs with Justice Joins Global Mobilization

Texas State Representative Roberto Alonzo (pictured), environmentalist Molly Rooke, and ACORN leader Roslyn Dodge led presentations at a Jobs with Justice speakout on January 25 at Oak Cliff Methodist Church in Dallas. The event was part of a worldwide mobilization called by the Executive Committee of the World Social Forum, of which National Jobs with Jutice is part. The international demands are listed on another page.

Walt Harrison brought sophisticated microphones and sound equipment so that everybody could participate, and just about everybody did. We did a lot more than complain and finger-point about the ills of society around us. Most of the commentary was upbeat about recent accomplishments and hopes for the immediate future. "What we demand in 2008" was the general theme. Both English and Spanish presentations were given.

Showing that we mean business, many of the participants took blank voter registration cards as they left.
