Activists Are Concerned About Trans-Texas Highway

Texas AFL-CIO Communications Director Ed Sills alarmed unionists on June 18 with news that a gigantic super highway was secretly planned and will soon be under construction. It is expected to be four football fields wide and extend from North to South Texas. It's purpose will be to facilitate bringing overseas goods into the interior of the United States at the lowest possible cost. Neither the Teamsters nor the Longshoremen have been brought into the secret planning circle.

To a large extent, the news is coming from far-right political groups who are dedicated to closed borders rather than from union sources. The article that Sills sent along was written by Jerome R Corsi and printed in Human Events magazine. According to postings on http://www.corridorwatch.org/ttc/index.htm, the Texas Republican Party lambasted the idea at their recent convention. It also says that around 100 Department of Transportation legally required public hearings will not give anyone a chance to stop these gigantic government expenditures and plans, but environmental considerations will be heard. Go to the web site for a complete list of hearings.

All meetings open at 5:00 p.m. with presentations beginning at 6:30 p.m.. The Dallas meeting is set for July 27 at the Grauwyler Community Center, 7780 Harry Hines Blvd.
