United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW)
UFCW has particularly distinguised itself in its political action in Dallas
County. Individual union members report signing up hundreds of new voters
during election times. During a critical strike in California, Dallas' own
Angela Johnson temporarily gave up her spot at a grocery store checkout
counter and raised thousands of dollars for her union brothers and sisters.
She was honored at the 200
4
Labor Day breakfast as a "Heroine of Labor." Johnson also works
with the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW), the Coalition of Black Trade
Unionists (CBTU), and the A Philip Randolph civil rights organization. She's
looking for people to get involved in all of them!
