UNITE-HERE Gets a Little Help from their Friends

Unionists from UNITE-HERE and their friends are working to get decent treatment for workers at Sky Chef, a catering service for airlines. On December 14, they went to Sky Chef's main customer, American Airlines, to ask for more support.

Ella Adjei, the Financial Secretary for the local, spoke with an aide to President Gerald Arpey from the lobby of their corporate headquarters. Accompanying were Rudy Anderson of Jobs with Justice, Sister Nancy Sullivan of the Catholic Diocese, and this reporter. Three UNITE-HERE members were backing Sister Adjei: Daisy Flores, Carlos Marroquin, and Willy Gonzalez.

Mr. Arpey did not invite the delegation upstairs to his office, but Gonzalez received another call from Mr. Arpey's office later that day. He explained to the Jobs with Justice meeting that evening that UNITE-HERE will continue reaching out to everyone who can help the Sky Chef workers.
