Changing Plans

We have a different plan for Workers Memorial Day:

We gather to remember the 5,000 workers killed on the job in the past year, including oil workers and miners in the last few days. If you are unable to attend, please stop whatever you are doing for just a minute at 5 PM to remember our fallen brothers and sisters.

We'll also be celebrating the 40th birthday of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and express our gratitude for recent actions from the Department of Labor pointing to a safer workplace in America.

Stand up for immigration reform on International Workers Day

The outrage that is Arizona makes the May 1 "Mega-March" more important than ever. Our Jobs with Justice group gathers at 1 PM in front of the DART Building, corner of Akard and Pacific, right beside the downtown Dallas train stop. The march steps off at 2 PM from Guadalupe Cathedral on Ross & Pearl, then goes through downtown and ends at City Hall on Young & Ervay. Let's have a big workers' contingent!

Early voting started today. AFL-CIO volunteers are working every evening until the election.

Don't forget the unemployed!

May 8th is the National Association of Letter Carriers' food drive. Put the cans out with your mail!

Build labor/religious connections

On Saturday, May 8, at 2:00 pm, at Northaven United Methodist Church, the Dallas Area Christian Progressive Alliance sponsors a talk by Joerg Rieger, PhD., Wendland-Cook Endowed Professor of Constructive Theology at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, who will speak on his latest book, No Rising Tide: Theology, Economics, and the Future.
